Demetri Martin


Demetri Martin is a stand-up comedian best know for his work with the popular Comedy Central program, “The Daily Show”.

Born Demetrios Evan Martin on May 25, 1973, Demetri Martin was raised in Toms River, New Jersey, and went on to attend Yale University and New York University of Law. However, one year before graduation, Demetri Martin decided to pursue comedy full time and dropped out of law school. Over the course of his comedy career, Demetri Martin has been nominated for and won a number of awards, including winning the Perrier Comedy Award in 2003, the Writers Guild of America Award in 2005, and the Barry Award in 2006. In addition to his work in comedy, Demetri Martin is also an actor, musician and writer.

Demetri Martin first caught the nation’s attention when he appeared on the Comedy Central program, “Premium Blend” in 2001. In 2003, Demetri Martin was hired by the late night program, “Late Night with Conan O’Brien” as a writer, a position which earned him an Emmy Award nomination. Demetri Martin’s hard work and talent was rewarded in 2004 when he was given his own “Comedy Central Presents” stand-up special.

Since his solo show, Demetri Martin has been a correspondent on “The Daily Show” hosting “Trendspotting”, a segment that calls out various trends popular among the youth culture which eventually turned into “Professional Important News with Demetri Martin” in 2007. Demetri Martin can also be seen in music videos such as Fountains of Wayne’s “Someone to Love”, Travis’s “Selfish Jean”, and a guest on HBO’s “Flight of the Conchords”.
